Jim Phalan II: Founder and Hospitality Visionary

Jim Phalan II is the founder of The Fox Restaurant & Brewery and an award-winning entrepreneur with over 19 years of experience in the craft beer and hospitality industry. Known for restoring historic landmarks like Nevada’s longest-running hotel, Jim has built a reputation for blending traditional brewing excellence with community-focused hospitality across Northern Nevada.


Brewing Expertise & Industry Recognition

Jim’s commitment to craft excellence is evidenced by his history of professional accolades and operational success.


Gold Medal:

In 2013, Jim’s team at High Sierra Brewing Co, earned a Gold Medal for their Buzzed Bee Honey Ale at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF), one of the highest honors in the brewing world.  Link 


Historic Restoration:

Jim specializes in "breathing new life" into historic properties. He founded the original Fox Brewpub in 2008 within the historic St. Charles-Muller Hotel (built in 1862) in Carson City, transforming a decaying landmark into a vibrant community hub.


Capital City Brewfest

Building on his passion for community and craft beer, Jim founded the Capital City Brewfest in 2013, collaborating early on with the Carson City Rotary Club to create an annual downtown festival featuring Nevada and regional breweries, tastings, games, and camaraderie. The event quickly grew into a highlight that drew crowds to the heart of Carson City and supported local causes through Rotary proceeds. In a commitment to its long-term legacy, Jim transitioned ownership and operations to the Carson City Rotary Club, ensuring it continues today as a key fundraiser for youth scholarships and community projects.


Multinational Operator:

Beyond Nevada, Jim expanded his "Fox energy" internationally by launching Bendita Carmelita Craft Brewery in Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico, in 2022.  Link 


Entrepreneurial History

Before entering the brewing scene, Jim was a pioneer in the technology sector.


Technology & Infrastructure:

He founded ResortWiFi, a company that provided complex wireless solutions for major resort brands like Wyndham and Holiday Inn. He successfully scaled the business and sold it to Wayport, Inc. in 2007.  Link 


Strategic Expansion:

In 2023, Jim expanded The Fox brand to Midtown Reno, acquiring and renovating the historic Lintch House - Wonder Street building to meet his high standards for food, craft beer production and guest experience.  Link

Jim’s leadership is defined by a "150% effort" philosophy and a refusal to settle for complacency.
